  • Obession

Maybe you could call my reading an obsession. Oftentimes, when I start reading a book, I barely put it down to do anything else. I rarely eat or drink anything. I stop to go to the bathroom, but I don’t look at the time.

Recently, I’ve gotten really interested in teen fiction. I suppose you could say the Twilight series kicked it off. Since then, I browse the “Teen” or “Young Adult” section in the bookstore. These are some of the books I’ve read:

    (Haven’t read Ink Exchange yet)

(Haven’t read the following books yet)

(The House of Night series…I think I’ve read the first 5…these books are scattered around in boxes so it’s hard to know)

(Haven’t read the last book yet..City of Glass)

(Haven’t read the third book yet)

(Haven’t read the fourth book yet…Van Alen Legacy)

(Haven’t read the third collection yet)

(Haven’t read the following books yet)

These are the books that I’m currently excited about: the Vampire Academy series. I read the first book earlier this week, I read Frostbite yesterday, and today I read Shadow Kiss. I will soon start reading Blood Promise.

What gets me excited about teen books is that they are actually starting to read for pleasure! If you’ve paid attention at all, you should have noticed the boom in the last couple of years in this industry. Bookstores have expanded these sections and made them appealing for teens. After all, teens have the most expendable income of anyone else. The part time jobs after school…they generally spend that money. It only makes me realize that these are the kinds of books I should be writing, because this business is really growing right now.

A while ago, I started writing a book that was directed at the teen audience. It’s about the fae world, and I think it’s a great idea. The recent events I’ve been through at my job have only strengthened my convictions in my writing and what I want with my life. I don’t want to work at this place forever. So at this time, I’m reading the books that are currently on the market for this audience. I’m looking at writing styles and the language used. I’ll also start writing that book again….so wish me luck!!

  • I think I’ve read the first five? of the House of Night series..They are really good.

  • I rented the Twilight movies from the library so I’m going to watch them before I invest any time into the books.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Just so you know, the books are 100X better than the movies. The movies don’t capture the spirit of the books like they should. I’ve been very disappointed so far in the movies.

  • I’ve read some of those too. Currently I’m reading inkheart which my 12 YOD insists I read. It’s actually quite good, and she has the next one in the series ready for me to read next.

  • Good luck :) I’m writing a book too.

And out of the books you’ve listed I’ve only read Evermore. It was pretty good. And if your into vampire books I recommend reading The Vampire Diaries. I’ve read the first two books so far and have really enjoyed them.

@tsh44 - I read Inkheart last year. I loved that book. The movie is good as well.

  • Some of those covers alone make me wanna get the books!

Good luck, you. :) I think with reading so many teen books, you will have a great idea of what sells. I wish you well! :)

  • @ChainGangSoldier619 - Did you read inkspell and inkdeath as well? My daughter tells me I must read both of those too.

  • House of night is amazing i’ve read them all and am anxiously waiting for the next to come out

  • Thanks for subbing. And there’s this book called ‘Betwixt’ by Tara Bray Smith I think that’s her name… anyway it’s about teenagers and they’re all fae and have special powers. you’d probably like it.

  • @honeytar - I think I’ve heard of it…but I never read it. I added it to my Amazon wishlist =]
