  • I don’t know what that means

A while back, I was eating appetizers with Cody at Chili’s and we got into the conversation that I don’t know who I am. He told me to list things about me that make me who I am. I said, “I have a pretty face. Pretty eyes. I have a good heart. I’m smart. I’m nice.” I didn’t know what else to say after that. He shook his head, and said that there was so much more he would have said about me. He didn’t say any of them, but he told me I have so much potential and I have a lot to offer.

But I don’t know what that means. What do I have to offer? I just don’t understand what people mean when they say that. What does having a lot to offer entail? I’ve gathered that someone would be lucky to have me…but…why? I have a kind heart and I take care of the people that I care about, is that included in the offer? I just don’t get it. Is this offer different from others that have a lot to offer?

  • I wish I could help explain what that means, but I get confused when I’m told that as well. It’s kind of a vague compliment. I wish when people say things like that, they would just come out with exactly what “a lot” is! I don’t know…maybe it’s something we have to figure out for ourselves?

    Sorry…I’ve been no help here.

  • confusion reigns when people ask me that on the spot too….even though I’m fairly self-aware..I’d only mention 3 or 4 things and lose myself…just wanted you to know you’re not alone……..Zoe xoxo

  • Maybe he’s just telling you to believe in yourself. Sorta like this guy:

  • those are more things than I could list about myself

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Oh shut up. I’ll slap you if say any more of those kinds of things.

  • You also seem liken you have a lot of perseverance, which is a good character trait.

  • It is an interesting question… “what does that mean?”

Most people I’ve ever known never bother to ask that question, about anything. They simply ignore what is inconvenient and go on.

The reality is also simple. each of has qualities that enhance ourselves, demean us, distract us and even damn us. We are capable of any, even all of them. But one fact remains…

Our actions will always be the truth, no matter what we might wish, or think. And our actions are always the results of what we think, whether it’s our conscious thoughts, or unconscious. The problem most people have is that they never ask why we do things we “know” will hurt us in one form or another, until that is, we feel that pain.

“What does that mean…” What are you worth?

It means that you are someone I would gladly hold if you asked, one who deserves the time, the patience and the help you need to get through this life. It means that your life is as full of possibilities as any other life, that your dreams are just as valid as any other.

It means that it is your choice. “Your” choice to make of yourself what you wish. For good or ill, it is your choice.

And from what I’ve seen these last nine years, you’ve chosen pretty well.

  • By process of elimination, you’re simply not an idiot like most people are. You’re articulate, clever, a good observer, erudite, sharp without being rude, fairly well-read and culturally literate. If I was 40 years younger, I could easily imagine spending my life with somebody like you.
