  • No “hanky-panky”

So my boyfriend is coming to town next weekend. Earlier in the weekend, I texted my dad while he was at work and asked him if Nick could stay here. My dad texted back, “We will have to discuss.” I asked him what there is to discuss. He didn’t answer. So tonight, I asked him again if Nick can stay here. This is how the conversation went.

Dad: Will he be sleeping in the same bed?

Me: Yeah, I would assume so.

Dad: Are you going to sleep head to toe?

    Me: What?! No.

    Dad: *silence*

Me: So I’m waiting for an answer.

Dad: I’m waiting for the right answer!

Me: Umm, okay, I will pass it along to Nick that we have to sleep head to toe.

    Dad: No hanky-panky.

    Me: What??

Dad: No hanky-panky in the house.

    Me: omg are you serious?

Dad: Put yourself in my shoes.

Me: Soooo, can he stay here?

Dad: The answer is yeah, if there’s no hanky-panky.

Obviously, I found this conversation hilarious. Here I am, nearly 26 years old, and my dad says no “hanky-panky” while my boyfriend is in the house

  • hanky-panky: noun 1. unethical behavior; deceit

You’re okay if you don’t take any bribes.

  • What he won’t know won’t hurt him ;)

  • “No hanky-panky in the house.” = hanky-panky in the car, garden, or just outside on the pavement ;) .

  • LOL. Hanky panky is what we live for.

  • Hahahaha, sounds like something my mom would say.  My boyfriend and I have been living together for nearly two years, but when we visit her, we have to sleep in opposite rooms.  Hah.

  • Baha. Parents are so funny. I hear ya though.

  • When my sister came home from the city of the university she was studying at with her boyfriend (back home) my parents at first said she could sleep in her bed and her boyfriend in the lounge on put up bed

Now when she comes home both sleep in the same room (same bed) on put up bed in dining room (but sometimes sleep separate)

My Nan and Granddad (when my uncle came up to see his mum and dad with his girlfriend, now wife) were never allowed to sleep in the same bed,   not even the same room, my uncle throught this was quite funny at 30,    I don’t think my Nan and Granddad can do much when coming up for a visit,  now my Uncle and his wife have had their 1st child.

  • The Puritans practiced ‘boarding’, couples could sleep together (a test drive) before marriage, but a plank was put between them and they couldn’t cross that line.

  • So he does not want you to have sex in his house?

Who KNOWS why he does not want you to have sex in his house! Old men! Old ideas!

Is it his house? Is that what he wants? You can have sex anyplace else you want?

So he is an old fart set in his ways? Where else can he go to be himself – set in his ways?

    Does he love you anyway?

Why force the issue? Go have your fun someplace else and somebody sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag!

  • @Donkey_Guy_10 - Well, I wasn’t complaining about it, I just thought it was amusing that my father and I had this conversation, and that he used the term “hanky-panky.” My dad is the kind of guy that has never talked to my sister and I about sex or about our periods. He won’t say the word bra or tampon at all, and my sister and I have always found this hilarious, and we make fun of him every time we can. When we were younger, I used to say to her, “Ashley, say penis!! Say penis!!” just to piss him off. Good times :P

  • @crazy2love - Well – if he loves you – I can imagine he may feel very trapped! Its quite possible he has some very strong feelings about the topic – and has no experience talking about those feelings – or beliefs – right or wrong – whatever they may be.So indeed, you have quite a bit of power here over your relationship with your dad.Choices! Choices! And yeah – dad’s can be pretty funny!

  • I think I’d be more concerned with my daughter sleeping head to toe with a man than face to face seems like there’s a lot more potential for “hanky panky” when she’s already at that end of him.

  • LOL! Maybe no hanky panky with dad in the house? I’m thinking if dad had a friend over, you probably wouldn’t want to hear any hanky panky in the next room either. haha

  • Head to toe? Ok…. 69 all night long!

  • I think the head to toe comment is really funny!
