  • Xanga IM (edited)

So, sitting at work, with nothing to do. Yeah, my company is spending their money wisely…..

Anyways, last night I checked out the Xanga IM. It’s a pretty sweet feature, I’d say. I lurve it.

But I kind of hate it too. This is a blogging site, and I kind of feel like the IM takes a lot away from that. Maybe it’s just because it was the first night and it was out of control, but I got like NO blogging done. Out of all my friends, there was about 80 online, and I had 5-6 chats going at once. It’s hard to keep up with just that, but also reading your posts. I think sometimes I will log off the IM so I can blog, but I enjoy being able to chat with you guys, so sometimes I will hang out there.

So, I started going through and visiting all the people that commented my last post. It’s a lot!! I’m only the first page and there’s more than 4 pages!! I’ll get through it all though, I promise!!

    LURVE YOUUUU GUYSSSS!!!! <3

    EDIT:

They let me get off work early :D

    ANOTHER EDIT:

Yeah, if you don’t want to chat, you can edit your chat settings. Or, you can edit your settings so that it doesn’t automatically sign you in if you don’t want to chat ALL the time. Also, you can just put the “Busy” on. TheXangaTeam wrote a post about it yesterday. And I just discovered if you don’t have another window open and you write a post, you get signed out! zomg. Anyways, check out the chat settings.

  • You gotta put up a busy sign in the IM.

  • we’re good for something…maybe ;)  I’ll be having to have serious moments of google chrome which doesn’t support this feature if i too wish to keep up my loquaciousness.  I can only type so fast, read so much and think (keep the debate to a minimum) so readily.

  • thats what happens when you’re popular lol. i got 1 im all night. *sad face* that’s ok. i forgive everyone for not talking to me lol.

  • at first i thought the new im feature was neat, but then i realized i had no one to talk to so i like, fuck this! hahahah. i just go offline, justincase no creepers always message me or something.

  • Don’t worry, the initial excitement will go down to regular levels.

  • I can’t see IM :( But I can’t wait to try it and IM you. ;P

  • Aw, sweet :) And I know what you mean. I kept trying to read one post but couldn’t because I was chatting! I think that one post now has a ton of footprints from me and I hope he doesn’t think I’m a crazy stalker girl. Just.. an easily distracted girl ;)

  • I think I have only talked to about 4 people thus far.

  • I’m very happy there’s an IM client.

  • gosh, stop being so popular.

  • I like it, but its distracting as hell.

  • Yeah, I feel the same way, leave the IMing to AIM, Gtalk, Yahoo messenger, etc.  Like you said you didn’t get any blogging done.  What if that starts happening to a lot of Xangans?  God I’d hate to see Xanga turn into FaceBook!

  • It’s OK, but it is a distraction. I keep marking myself as offline and every time I go to a new page, it puts me back online!

  • @buddly47 - Maybe mark it as busy?

  • @crazy2love - I don’t know. That might work. Don’t wanna opt out, cause it is handy, sometimes. I’ll try that, thanks!

  • @buddly47 - if you turn off “Auto-Start” in your chat settings, it’ll keep you signed off of IM until you manually sign into IM… Try unchecking the Auto-Start box and logging out/in of Xanga – you should still see the chat bar, but it’ll say something like “Sign into Xanga to chat” – you can just click that link anytime you’re ready to sign in to IM.

  • @marc - Marc, you are the best, man! I didn’t even know there were chat settings. lol

But that will be perfect. The only time I want to be logged into chat is when I have nothing else to do. Too distracting, otherwise.

I unchecked it and was instantly signed out of chat when I clicked save. Didn’t even have to log out and back in. Thanks again, Marc!

  • @buddly47 - heh cool… I should’ve given you the link!

    http://www.xanga.com/private/chatsettings.aspx

  • @marc - Haha, is OK, as soon as I clicked on my settings I saw the chat settings button.

  • (bender)…it doesn’t work here

  • I was wondering about that chat stuff. It is signing me in and out all over the place.

Oh and I’ve been meaning to ask you about your prof pic. What are you looking at?

  • @vanedave - lol, I’m not really looking at anything! I was just taking a picture of myself rolling my eyes one day. I think it’s especially useful when I make a snarky or sarcastic comment :D

  • I still do not have chat. Maybe it only works in certain browsers? I’ve been usin Opera.

  • Well thank you for being my first on xanga IM! It was fun times!

  • Yeah, I love it! But at the same time I feel kind of bad because I tend to be on/off the computer and leave mid convo. :(
