DON’T do it.
You know, it’s kind of rare that I visit a post, read it, and then leave with nothing to say. It’s kind of irritating, really. So many times, I see people reading my posts, BUT NEVER COMMENTING!! How is it possible you have NOTHING to say? Even “lima beans contain cyanide” will suffice!
Someone told me the people that do this are called lurkers. Well, can’t another word for lurker be creeper?

You’ve got to keep up an image. Sometimes there really is nothing to say, so you don’t want to say something that isn’t like you. Then you’re a poser.

That’s funny….I don’t leave a lot of comments when I read other people’s posts because I don’t want to become that annoying person who always has something to say whether anyone wants to read it or not. Unfortunately, I do pretty much always have got something to say and it’s quite often of the “lima beans contain cyanide” persuasion, so it’s a good thing that you gave that caveat.
Where’s the “I am gonna karate chop you have unless you get your ass over here and comment!” ?

Guilty as charged. I can sometimes be considered as a “creeper.” I think sometimes I have to actually step away from a specific post and process it…and then later return and add a comment. But sometimes later doesn’t actually happen, because I get distracted by other things.

how about the people who read in the first place but cannot relate or have nothing to say. is that taken for someone being rude? i get that all the time. i would rather be free to comment or not and still have the opportunity to read than to feel obligated to comment just because i read the post.

I probably comment on 95% of all posts that i read.
Sometimes I feel that I have nothing to say that could help contribute to a discussion. I try to comment as often as I can, even if it’s “great post” (but sometimes I feel cheap saying that, lol).

Guilty. However, I do this when it comes to toxic drama posts. I do not want to add fuel to the fire, etc. I think at those situations, it’s best not to say anything.
I usually don’t comment if I don’t think of anything to add to a post or an argument. I hate to just…put something there that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. That, and people usually say what I wanted to say.

hi there! i read a lot of stuff, so i generally leave my commenting to those who i’m actually friends with or subscribed to, unless the topic begs for me to leave my two cents. plus, i tend to leave long comments like this, so it gets exhausting. i hope that sheds a little light on why some may not comment.
i definitely agree with you, though. if someone regularly comes to read my stuff without commenting, i do find it more than a bit curious. i find it hard to believe that a reader like that would not have any opinions on anything that i write.
I do that sometimes, especially of late. I will open a blog I intend to read, but then something happens and I can’t read it right away. I usually try to come back to them, but I put my computer on hibernate, so you don’t see my footprints again on that blog until I comment (usually, unless something goes wrong). But yeah.

Hi, um, I’ve always had problems commenting on people’s blogs, on every site I’ve ever blogged on. I think I’m afraid of saying something stupid. Or saying something that gets taken the wrong way. I always read posts that make me want to say something but I’m terrified to say whatever it is because I don’t want the author to judge me. Does that make sense?

sometimes there really isnt anything to say, and you dont want to say something out of character. But I’ll try to do better. Promise.
I don’t leave a comment if it ends up being something personal. Like if I see a poem that’s not really my cup of tea, I’ll pass on commenting. Otherwise I’m pretty good about leaving comments.
Sometimes there isn’t anything to say of importance (and why waste words?). Or sometimes 20 other people have already said the same thing you would say (and again, why waste words?).

I think that a lot of the time, people feel it’s better to say nothing than to say something negative. I leave many entries without commenting for that reason.

Sometimes though, a person does visit your site, but doesn’t actually read the post because they’re turned off by the background music, the background image, the first picture in the post, the first sentence, etc. etc. or they might have accidentally clicked on your site altogether. So then they just don’t bother commenting on something that automatically turns them off, or didn’t mean to click on. Just because the feedback thing says that they visited your page, doesn’t mean that they spent a good five minutes rummaging around it. I know because I’m guilty of doing all these things while surfing Xanga…
I don’t think it gets creeperish until they start going through your next page, next page, next page, profile page, next page… all without leaving comments or rec’ing or anything. Then that’s a little on the strange side…
I often do not comment on other peoples blogs if I think that my comment won’t in some way influence the topic being discussed.
I love reading blogs of other people, such as yourself, but I dont always find it important to comment.At this particular post I found it very important to comment on it.So there you have it.

There are many reasons I don’t leave comments, when I don’t. Sometimes the post is so boring/stupid/infuriating I don’t even bother to finish reading it. Other times, I so disagree with the blogger, and all his/her buddies, I know if I say something they all will pounce on me and I just am not in the mood at the time to have to tell everybody why I STILL disagree even after I get pounced on.
But lots of times, I get called away from the computer and just click out if my browser altogether, without reading all the entries I opened.
Here’s a comment, but it really isn’t saying anything.

Eh, I often don’t say anything because I simply don’t have anything to add and I’m so used to people becoming annoyed if I say something just to say something. I do leave comments when I feel like I’m adding a viewpoint or if I’m on like Dan’s site, where everyone’s repeating stuff anyways. It’s also not my personality to leave some spontaneous comment (although I do wish I was better with the spontaneous thoughts). I hope people don’t see me as a creeper though.
