Xanga, This NEEDS To Be Addressed
Dear XangaTeam,
I find it to be deplorable actions on your part to both be a part of and condone the behavior of the Ish sites. It is immoral and unethical to steal someone’s writing and put someone else’s name on it, with no credit to the original writer. In most cases, this would be illegal. Just because our work as bloggers is not copyrighted, that does NOT make it okay to steal.
It really makes me angry that this happens. This is the second time one of my friends here has had their work stolen from them, and I know that it’s not the only two people this has happened to. This kind of behavior needs to stop. It is unacceptable. It takes our valuable time to write these posts, and to have our words stolen from underneath us makes me sick. YOU, XangaTeam, are starting to make me sick.
That’s pretty much all I have to say at this point, because I’m really upset. You better get your act together, Xanga. That’s all I have to say.
Not So Sincerely,
Crazy2love(I said “Not So Sincerely” because the way I was saying this wasn’t very sincere, but the message itself is sincere, if that makes sense.)

You go! =D
Agreed! Something needs to be done about the ish sites. I wouldn’t mind them if they didn’t steal posts and if they didn’t edit peoples posts so much because that isn’t right either. But, this seems to be happening more and more with ish sites and Xanga just needs to step in and make it stop now.
i wish that all the comments on my posts that went up there were credited to me i mean, id have so many credits
I have complained about it before. They won’t do anything about it. And once again you can tell from compete.com that xanga’s traffic is dropping.
It is this whole attitude of xanga that they can just ignore the xanga community and do nothing. What can you do? They are not listening.
@quietmeteorshowers - Xanga should just drive the traffic right to your site. That is what the other social networks do. You would eliminate all of these problems.
really? that’s terrible. yikes.
Let’s kick them!
oooh the heat from this sorta melted my keyboard!
This is ridiculous…it has happened to a few of my friends too (and me as well)….it drives me crazy. I finally un-subbed all the “ish” sites except momaroo.
Thank God someone finally said it!
“not so sincerely” means you’re not being sincere. i think you are!
i’m with Dan on this.
We all need to join in and comment on this blog. Maybe enough of us together will get some attention!
Curious. What post/articles are you talking about?
Actually, our writing on here is copyrighted. Anything written online is considered your copyright. I would imagine if someone wanted to take Xanga to court over it they would beat Xanga in court.
I see you saw i_Nutrition’s post. Not cool at all.
poor i_nutrition.
but hey this means she’s so good that they want to be her XD
BUT STILL xanga needs a slap in the processing unit
who stole what and did it get stolen and taken to the ish sites. please, i am very interested. i’ve had multiple poems stolen from me and found on other peoples websites.
@edlives - i_nutrition had some taken from her, she recently blogged about it, and ChainGangSoldier619 had some awhile back, I don’t remember what specifically.
@thomas_michael - See above ^ I replied to edlives =]
@MagisterTom - This person is correct.
and the thing is, you can’t feel bad for xanga like the person who took it for a small reason. Xanga is a “major” blogging site. They know the rules.
@crazy2love - that just sucks. sigh. i know the short solution is to drop a c. with the year on it next to all your work but it doesn’t always solve the long term problem.
Agreed.
@crazy2love - If you can snag both URL’s – 1 of the original person who posted, and the Ish site URL…I’m sure it can be corrected.
I am thinking of leaving…
Stuff like this hurts the original author and it also makes Xanga look bad. What the hell? No wonder people get pissed off and leave.
Thanks for the info!
I used to make a habit of catching the featured ish sites plagiarizing one source or another. Xanga doest care and I got bored with it. But the practice never slowed down while I was looking. I’m sure it is still the norm
@ShimmerBodyCream - Ya can we kick ‘em :]
@TheTheologiansCafe - My thoughts exactly.
Well said.
K, maybe I’m missing something. Every time I get featured on any Ish site I get credit for it. They have an “About The Author” box on the side that says who wrote the post. I don’t see the problem if you are being credited, and it does drive traffic to your site.
but why would u say Not so sincerely, I’m sure you were being very sincere.
Word.
I had Momaroo edit and change my titles, but that is all. That was enough!
My stuff is my stuff now, posted as it was written.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
@BeautifulB_227 - The person didn’t want them taking the posts and didn’t give them permission yet the ish site still took it. They stole the person’s post changed a few words and used it–though the blogger told them that they couldn’t use it. That is what this is about.
I hope xanga/the ish sites can man up and take responsibility for this.
Oh you’re sincere all right, and that’s why I love this. THANK YOU for calling out the illegal shenanigans of the Ishes.
Well said!
@MagisterTom - Thats true in theory but to be extra careful you must post the (C) symbol along with ALL RIGHTS RESERVED! I’m gonna post a blog on the subject!
Oh man, That’s terrible!
I just assumed that people were giving their permission. That is so not cool and they need to have something slapped. You go girl
I saw that as well, as the person that posted about that is clearly not the first person it’s happened to. Sickening, IMO.
copy & pasted from wiki answers, also when blogging there’s a copyright icon one can use on their blog, hope this helps:
To copywrite would be to write some copy, e.g. text for a selling purpose. However, for something to be under copyright, it only has to be unique and created. Any piece of art, including text, is automatically copyrighted if unique at the time of its creation. (For example, I can not claim copyright for the word EXAMPLE. But I could claim copyright on this whole explanation. This means that you can not copy and paste this into your own work claiming you are the author and then make profit on it. Copyright is only relevant when it’s profitable. No one can deny anyone to read this explanation in a class room, or print it and hang it on ones own wall at home.) The copyright is also usually tied to its context, and therefore some material can be copied and put into new context (that actually changes the content and its meaning drastically) and sold or publish legally.
The copyright-c (a c in a circle) is a symbol guiding the reader to whom the content belong and when it was created. At the bottom of the page I’m publishing this, I find: Copyright © 2008 Answers Corporation This means that Answers Corporation see themselves as creator of this web-page and its content.
The laws of copyright probably differs from country to country, but this is broadly how it works. The copyright is often ignored some years after its creators death and there is no apparent owner in form of company or other. Classical music composed hundreds of years ago usually applies, although the modern recordings of the classical music (or the fresh printed note-sheet) is in itself under copyright.
I hope those guys die in a fire.
This really needed to be addressed. Epic post, bro.
- Kunoichi
I really thought they had to ask for permission before featuring them on the -ish frontpages. I know they do ask a lot of times.
I know if you submit a post for feature they reserve the rigfht to edit your post. Which sounds innocent. But I would not want them to do anything but spellceck on any text expressing a personal opinion on any issue.
Agreed!
I’m jumping on this bandwagon, because you’re right, it’s not right at all. Just goes to show you what kind of people are running this joint. It’s pretty sad. People will never cease to amaze me. Thanks for being so bold and blogging about it. I really hope the right thing will be done here for the sake of these authors. =/
You have my support
Mancouch once stole a picture right out my Xanga album. That photo is connected to my post “Kissy Post” but they reused it for another one their own posts without crediting it to me. I wrote an angry letter to the team because the photo is copyrighted to me since it was taken during a personal cruise, but they won’t listen. I finally threatened legal action. From that moment onwards, all the Ish sites link the source of all the images used in their featured blogs to avoid copyright infringement.
Yeah, what Edlives said.
Abuse by the Xanga team and their condescending remarks when they realize they’ve ticked us off is a big reason I have stopped posting as much here.
Totally uncool!
Can the ish sites get any worse?
I wish they would just get rid of all the -ish sites that are controled by Xanga itself. The one’s that were started by members (Queerish, etc….) are not the problem.
@TheTheologiansCafe - Sadly you’re right.
yeah!!!!
They are idiots. I hope somebody gets sued.
well,, i know nothing about ish sites,, never been to one i dont guess..
hahahaha,, ish,,, sounds like minnows,,, followish,,, or something…
and,,, oh,, i came here on a rec,, if the xanga team had recd it,,, youd have never seen me…
granted,, it was dans rec,, hahahahaha,,, just about as bad… i seldom if ever,, this may be a first,,, commented on one of his recs…
and dont worry,,, i dont think you can change the time stamp backwards,, so the ishy sites,, or no one else could claim copyright infringement….
Can’t really believe they would steal people’s posts. Good on you for posting about this because it’s not right at all and something should be done about it.
@TheTheologiansCafe - they are acting like Democrats in congress!
I agree. Plagiarism is disgusting.
This has happened to me too already.
Thank you for writing this!
its terrible.
Stupid plagarists who can’t come up with their own material. Tsk tsk lol.
no more Ish sites!
what’s the point in even having these ish sites? I’m not fond of them.
If this is true, it’s very worrisome indeed. I’m already skittish about putting my writings out there without this sort of thing. That said, I’d like to see the specific sites for myself before I make any judgments or any decisions (to leave) based on those judgments.
wow I was unaware that this was happening! That is terrible to have your work stolen straight out of your blog is crazy probably why all the more people have their blogs set on private!
Legally anything you write is copyrighted at the point of creation.I didn’t know the “ish” sites did this.Very disconcerting…
i hope they see this and will change
That sucks! T_T
ha, wonderful edit.
@TheBigShowAtUD - Aw thanks =]
I think this whole ISH site bebaucle is Xanga’s fault. They need to do something about it, or they will lose people to facebook, myspace and even Tumblr. So I think we all need to take a stand on the Xanga issue.
YES
What got stolen from who this time? I’ve heard about this happening to people way too often. -.- Ridiculous.
Agreed. Good letter. Needs to be said.
xanga’s service quality is deteriorating severely. good for you for making a stand!
That’s weird, when datingish published an entry of mine, they actually contacted me and asked me to give them permission to publish it the website. I guess the other ish sites don’t do this? o.o
@stardustskye - Did you deny them? If you deny them, they will do it anyway, and won’t give you credit.
:[
I have complained about the behaviors/drama of people on Ish sites, but I didn’t know it was this bad. I think it’d be better to have a user generated “Ish” site (through an actual Xanga) with the same running themes, but more quality content. I knew a majority of their posts seemed shady, and they do seem to use a lot from other websites/articles for their blogs.
Xanga has been with me since my childhood and it’s sad to see them deteriorate like this. I think the Ish sites have a better chance of stealing other Xangans’ posts if they’re subscribed to them. So start blocking away I suppose?
If anything, I’d find a new blog site to be my MAIN site but still keep Xanga given that I have my own “circle” of people who eagerly read my stuff but don’t blog elsewhere.
