  • Hate Speech [110]

    I really don’t think that was hate speech on the Mancouch Post. It looked more like personal opinion. The only thing he said was “Man, that old nazi really hit the floor.” Is it hateful JUST to call someone a Nazi? I hear people calling other people communists and Nazis all the time. I just think it’s people defining a way somebody acts.

    Hell, there are people at work that call our boss a “fun Nazi.” I think it’s pretty comical.

    Also, I thought the Pope being knocked down was pretty damn funny. I would have laughed no matter who was being knocked down.

    Another also, I read half the comments on Mancouch and all the comments on the responding post. I think everyone is getting too out of sorts on all this.

  • I agree. I just read scrambledwhatever’s post and comments, and the Mancouch post. I think she’s off base there. I don’t see where the post on Mancouch was hate speech at all. And you’re not the only one who laughed when the pope went down, it cracked me up. Then again, I laugh when anyone falls down, myself included!

  • I thought it was pretty unfunny. Nothing at all to do with his position as a religious leader though, and everything to do with the fact that he’s an 82 year old man.  Tackling old folks isn’t cool.  It’s like tripping blind people.

  • There’s just a lack of understanding for what “hate speech” means legally.

  • Dear Crystal,

    Sometimes I think that (on Xanga esp.) there are certain bloggers who attempt to stir things up. On the old televsion show “Seinfeld”, which was quite popular in the 1990s, one of the characters was called the “Soup Nazi”. (love that Wikipedia) There was never any  negative reaction to the word “nazi” levelled against the writers. Perhaps if the episode had been penned by a Mancoucher?

    Seems to be some kind of negativity being spread around about Mancouch lately. I’ve been corresponding with a few Mancouchers lately and they’re some of the most well behaved “Xangans” I’ve had the honor of meeting. (I think they like to be called “Mancouchers’ instead of Xangans, but we’re all part of Xanga.

    People getting knocked down has been funny since it first happened, in some cave somewhere. I’m sure if there were cellphones back then, someone would have posted a video on CaveYouTube.

    I’m glad the Pope is okay. He is an old guy, and quite frail.

  • THere are people who often take things to the extreme when responding to a post. But if it offends you or bothers you so badly why is it that you sit there and allow it to bother you. In cases where you don’t like what someone has written you ignore it, not try to blast them back. There is a difference in friendly debate, argument and flaming someone. If you don’t like what you see leave, ignore not lessen yourself by being just as stupid too. ( I am in no way saying that Mancouch’s post was wrong) Just if you don’t like the stuff leave it be, don’t stoop just as low.

    Hope that made since kinda off today.

  • @CrazyIrishWench - I laugh when I fall too!! I remember being drunk one time and falling down some concrete steps. I couldn’t stop laughing! My friends had to help me get up because I was laughing so hard, I couldn’t stand up on my own!!

    @just_the_average_jane - This is true.

    @ItsWhatEyeKnow - I completely agree with you there.

    @baldmike2004 - Oh you crack me up! CaveYouTube!! lmao. You’re completely right about Seinfeld and the Soup Nazi. I thought that whole bit was hilarious! Then Elaine couldn’t get any soup!! =]

    @Angelicliar - Makes complete sense!

  • I found it mildly amusing that he was knocked over at first. At least once I knew he wasn’t hurt. Then I found out someone broke a hip or something. Kind of like when the Iraqi threw a shoe at President Bush. And, I came up with the infallable joke long before the mancouch guy did!

    But, calling him a nazi just wasn’t right. And then with the rest of the stuff he said too. I don’t care if he posts it on his own place, but I don’t think it was right for mancouch to run the post.

  • I think this is what xanga intended when they posted it.  The guy who posted it is on friend lock and that is typically the case with all of these sites that xanga creates in order to try to post stuff like that.

    I really wish xanga just drove traffic to the regular users instead of crap like this.  Xanga’s traffic continues to drop.

  • @TheTheologiansCafe - Aww Dan, thanks for stopping by :D

    I hate the politics of it. I hate politics.

  • I hate ManCough… ops… Mancouch!  I never read/visit them.

  • Yeah I thought the whole argument over this was silly, but I can’t find it funny pushing anyone over especially someone that is at that age.

  • @CrazyIrishWench - When is scrambledmegsntoast ever right about anything is my question.

  • he called him a “nazi” because he actually was in Hitler Youth in Germany when he was a teen. not to say that makes it right or anything, but that’s the reason the term was thrown in.

    getting in an uproar over a stupid mancouch post that’s clearly meant to be a joke is ridiculous. it may have been in poor taste, but to call it a “hate site”, “hate speech”, etc. is a huge stretch of imagination.

  • @ItsWhatEyeKnow - they just don’t know, do they?  we should make 1Ls of them all.
