  • Where the HELL is the Parmesan cheese?! [120]

    You ever try looking for the dry Parmesan cheese at the grocery store? You know, the kind in the green bottle?!

    YOU CAN’T EVER FUCKING FIND IT!!!!!!

    You wander up and down the aisles at the grocery store, looking. Up and down the aisles. Until you waste so much time you’re about to give up!!! THEN you find in some weird fucking spot!!! Shouldn’t it be with the other damn condiments?? GRR.

    Unless you know your grocery store by now, and can go to the spot in .5 seconds.

    But whatever. It’s still in a weird spot.

    Recipe for Tequila Berry Salad (makes a lot…we make it every time the family gets together):

    Approximately 48oz of salad (I usually get the lettuce with carrots and red onions)
    1 cup of buttermilk
    1 cup of parmesan cheese (the dry kind)
    1 cup of REAL mayo
    1 cup of sugar
    2 bottles of the fake bacon bits
    1 cup of chopped cauliflower

    Mix everything together in a large mixing bowl. You can test to see if you have the proper bowl size by plopping in the bags of lettuce ;) If you are pre-mixing anything, don’t add the buttermilk and mayo until serving time, or else the lettuce will wilt and it won’t taste good =] It’s pretty delicious, and obviously, you don’t need any dressing for this salad.

  • Lol.. it’s in the pasta aisle in my local grocery store…

  • @striemmy - Nope,not in mine, it was by some cheese spread

  • yea, the parmesan i buy is in the pasta aisle i shop at as well. gonna have to try out your salad recipe though….

  • One time I remember finding the Parmesan on a rack on a pole in the cereal section and then next time it was in the produce but that is the beauty of Cub Foods.  I often think people go into those 24 hour places late at night when there are few workers just so they can move stuff around.  I’m not speaking from experience; I go late at night to race the motorized carts.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Is it just Cub that does this?! I’ve seen that damn cheese in so many weird places in that frickin store, I swear!! It doesn’t belong by cereal, by produce, or by cheese spread. wtf haha.

  • i wonder if there’s anything i could substitute when it comes to mayo. i just cant eat mayo lol.

  • Did you have Cash Wise or HyVee over by you?  The ones in the town where I went to school had it in three sections: cheese, pasta, and by the popcorn.  I think they put it by the popcorn because there were so many other powdered cheeses that were in that section.  My favorite was the powder for Kraft’s Macaroni and Cheese.

  • The name doesn’t seem to match the ingredients.

  • I got married,  she locates everything in the shop,  I pay the mortgage..  I wish everything was that simple..

    Happy everything

  • Personally I like mozzarella cheese and Jarlsberg cheese once in a while.  That powdered cheese I can sort of take or leave.  I used to REALLY hate cauliflower and all cooked vegetables when I was a little kid and I still don’t like mashed potatos.  I was forced to eat cooked vegetables and my mother would cook them on purpose so that she’d have an excuse to beat the crap out of me.  She liked to slap my face and pull my hair.  One time when I was 6 years old she tried to make me eat honey, she tricked me by telling me “Winnie-The-Pooh eats honey, Randy!”  I tasted it, I spat it out on the kitchen floor and she immediately started beating me.  I have a song in my head, “The National Police…The National Police…On The Beating Squad of The National Police!!!!”  If America had an official torture squad and a national police, like Argentina, my mother would have fit right in.  As a torturer and interrogator and Bionic Beating Squad official.  It suddenly comes to me that I feel like sharing that with you.  I gather that your own mother is not exactly regarded as a saintly presence in your life.

  • The Beating Squad of The National Police should have their own little fife and drum band, shouldn’t they????  Tut, da-dummmmm!!!!

  • In our local stores the parmesan cheese is on the dairy aisle with the other cheeses but usually in a standing display beside them not actually in the fridge with them. @Paul_Partisan - sour cream makes a good sub for mayo.

  • @Paul_Partisan - I don’t know, I’ve never made it with anything else. You can google Tequila Berry Salad, and you can find other recipes, there might be one that doesn’t use mayo! But if you can’t eat it because you think it’s gross, you can’t even taste it.

    @godfatherofgreenbay - Nope. We have a Festival Foods, but they are expensive, so I don’t go there!

    @ItsWhatEyeKnow - I know, people say that all the time. That’s what it’s called though! There are different variations around the internet, but this is the only one I’ve made.

  • It never ceases to amaze where some stores put things. Logic never has much to do with it. That recipe sounds yummy.

  • lol That’s why I don’t like shopping at other grocery stores. I usually stick to my favorite one.

  • @ItsWhatEyeKnow - lol I was thinking the same thing. Where’s the TEQUILA (and berries)?!?

  • There is something other then a dry kind of parmesan cheese?

  • Sounds yummy!  I love salad.

  • YO you are so right about the parmesan cheese!

  • Get the real kind.  A big chunk from the deli.  You have to shred it yourself, but it tastes so much better.

  • Yum, that does sound good. And is making me hungry just thinking of it. Good thing you didn’t show a picture then I would be hungry.

  • @doesthisdefineme - I don’t know why it’s called that, considering there’s no tequila or berries, but that’s what it’s called!

    @TimeLostMeaning - Yeah, there’s fresh, lol. Fresh Parmesan cheese you can find at the deli.

    @RestlessButterfly - Oh, it’s delicious!

    @AlterEgo909 - XD

    @Ricardo98 - Fresh parmesan cheese doesn’t work with this recipe though. I agree with you most of the time though, it does taste better.

    @QueenOfOreos - Haha sowee! =]

  • Sounds good. You should submit this to IRLF.

  • I could not, for the life of me, find the velveta cheese one time. I was so mad.

  • @mathematicalbagpiper - Ahhh gotcha! Haha I never go to the ish sites, so I forget what half of them are, lmao!

  • @crazy2love - Lol! Shows how I use parmesan doesn’t it?

  • Good recipe as for the parmesan cheese, I have no frikin clue where to find it either, my parents graced us with a bottle but I have to go find it soon :/ I shop at the wal-mart supercenter or the local Acme grocery store no clue…happy shopping!

  • get the supposed freshly-grated ones.  man, the green thing is nostalgia-inducing.

  • Yum.  That sounds so good.

  • how’s your adsense doing? =)  nice pink-black combination here.

  • Your contents are more then sufficient for me.
