Why Xanga Is Better
Xanga is better, in my opinion, because no one wonders where you came from. What I mean is, if you randomly leave a comment on someone’s page and send a friend request, most of the time, no one wonders “who the hell is this douchebag?” On Facebook, people tend to be more skeptical about random comments and friend requests.
That’s pretty much it. I mean, it’s easy to make friends here. For the most part, people are very nice and welcoming. They don’t judge anyone. Of course, there are assholes here, but they’re scattered around. There’s a lot more kind people.
Also, if something is going on in your life, your Xanga friends will rally around you. They’ll give you all the support in the world. Xanga people are pretty much some of the best people in the world.
That’s why I love Xanga so much.

facebook is annoying if you add random people to play mafia wars with.. “do my job” “help me”
i wuv xanga for those reasons too. Xanga is a place where it is much easier to make friends. And when I was going through a prough period in my life I was wrapped in the nice comments from xangans. They rallied around me and pushed me out of it. Their words helped muchos. And I don’t know what I’d do without it.
Gotta love xanga!
Yeah, on Facebook I never randomly friend anyone. I usually have to know that person first before I do. Even then, I can be sometimes picky. I still haven’t accepted friend requests from old high school mates that never talked to me back then haha.
which probably answers a question ive always asked myself. and that question would be…. why do i keep coming back to xanga? lol i started xanga wen i was 14. im 20 now and have had 4 different pages. you totally answered my question. xanga is just like a home to me. i think this time is a keeper.
I totally agree.
@Paul_Partisan - Yep, I totally agree with that. It’s very annoying.
@QueenOfOreos - I know, me too.
@SimplyNita - =]
@Roadlesstaken - Haha almost all my friends on Facebook are from high school!
@ayoskii89 - I know, me too. I’ve had 3 other names, but this one is my original. It just seems right that I came back to this one instead of making a whole new one =]
@ChainGangSoldier619 - Thanks for the rec =]
Blogger and WordPress don’t seem as community minded as Xanga to me.
Agreed. I have a livejournal that I haven’t used since February because there is really no “community” like there is here.
@TheGreatBout - I’ve never tried either of those sites. I’m quite happy here! =]
@jupiter312 - I’ve had a Livejournal, but I never wrote in it. Maybe once when I first started it!
@crazy2love - I may have written a dozen times, but probably not more than that. I also think the fact that no one I know personally is aware of this blog is also a point in it’s favor.
I really dig this. It’s the sense of community that keeps me here, no doubt. Especially recently. It’s been so amazing, the people here are so willing to reach out.
Great post
Cheers,
Taylor
@skylar_rose - That’s great. I’m glad so many people feel like that =]
Yeah, and you have footprints in Xanga. You don’t have that in Facebook.
@reckless_eagle - Haha speaking of footprints, I need to stomp around Xanga more these days
It’s funny how here on Xanga when I have problems people talk to me and seem genuinely concerned however if I mention problems on facebook those friends with whom I have spent a great portion of my life tend to ignore me.
@godfatherofgreenbay - I know, that happens to me too. What the hell is up with that?!
Chyuh. Gotta love the community.
I think more thinking before typing happens on Xanga than on Facebook too.
They must only care about their crops in farmville or expanding their mafia. I wonder what would happen if Xanga introduced those apps.
@godfatherofgreenbay - At one time, I thought it would be a good idea, but I have since changed my mind. That’s all my mom cares about, are those apps. She calls me just to yell at me that my crops are dying :/ Honestly, I don’t really care. It’s just an amusing app to do when I’m bored.
I find that I only have two xanga friends that even read me, let alone comment, and further more rally around me when I am going through something.
Maybe my semi-anti-social behavior has transferred over into internet characteristics.
I dunno. But i like Xanga because when i write, I know that no matter what I say, I don’t have to worry about posting it.
I prefer facebook to communicate with my friends and acquaintances I know in real life. On xanga, I just come here to read random stuff when I’m bored.
That is sooo trueee. I’m not going to lie, most of the time if I get friend request on Facebook from strangers – I won’t accept them. But then again, you can’t really compare Xanga with Facebook. I think Facebook is more personal in the sense that it has all your information, photos (if you choose to share them), friends, and other such infos. Whereas Xanga is really just a blog, and half of the time, these blogs can be super random, or have nothing to do with you. Ya know what I mean? But nonetheless, very good point; I like Xanga for that too.
Totally on target. Rarely does anyone here demand your life history if you should happen to stop by randomly to post a comment. I like that atmosphere. Xanga is about the words, it attracts and keeps the wordsmiths.
…i have numerous xanga accounts because i just keep going back to it. =D i agree on the community aspect of this website.
love to all bloggers. =D
Lets try and keep it that way by making boring entries, I know we’d all love xanga to be champion of the blogs, for the sake of the pay cheques for the xanga team etc. At times though xanga has had its moments where one felt like it was becoming just like any other place.
Not that it’d matter.
Good point
xanga indeed kicks ass
I’ve gotten those kinds of comments on xanga before. And I seem to attract the assholes :/
I would rec this 100X,it is so true,even at 3 in the morning someone is here if you need them! I love the community!
Doesn’t look like anyone is arguing about this. Makes sense to me too!
Thank you for writing this.
I happen to agree.
Exactly!
long live xanga.
I enjoy xanga too!
its not as good as it used to be; but its still the best
I agree. ^-^
I used to be on myspace all the time but it’s just full of drama and I always got my feelings hurt over stuff…. I haven’t logged in there in like 2 months and I couldn’t be happier. ^_____^
I use Blogger and FB but neither are as good as Xanga when it comes to straight-up blogging and chatting. I’ve never seen any of my friends on Xanga and i’m pretty sure none of them (hardly any) use it. Which I like. And yeah, it’s way easier to meet people on her and there are more nice people than there are jerks!
@TheGiantSlayer - Aw =[ I used to be really shy, and that spilled over onto the internet too, so I guess that’s pretty much the same thing.
@Lil_Firefly_25 - Yeah, my Facebook is for friends “IRL” and family.
@cchang604 - That is true. I normally don’t accept strangers requests either.
@prairiecowboy - Yeah…I’m going to need to know your life history, random commentor! Haha, just kidding
@Ed_Libra - Hehe I don’t think I’ve logged into my other accounts for years!
only xanga .=] ..I dont add strangers on facebook..
@OwenHiggins - Indeed. No one (except for Dan) can continuously write top blogs and hit up at number one. It’s all about keeping the rest of the little bloggers going with the every day blogs
@RockOfEadie -
@explosive - Aw =[ I've gotten some assholes around here too..but if I ignore them long enough, they generally tend to go away.
@seedsower - Haha, well thanks for just your one rec
@dikdoktor - Well of course it makes sense, I wrote it!
@Bricker59 - I've been meaning to write it for a while, but I've been busy with moving and other things, so now I'm finally moved and I got a chance! It's no problem.
@RestlessButterfly - @complicatedlight - @ItsWhatEyeKnow - =]
@talhashahidk - Yes, it is =]
@HisKeiki - I haven’t logged into my myspace in I don’t know how long. It’s been a few months at least!
We need now a program where we can vote on how good someones comment is.
@OwenHiggins - yes we do
I agree completely!! Xanga is a wonderfully open and friendly community.
love xanga!! <3
I agree. I think it also has to do with the lack of personal information skattered about that you didn’t specifically post into a blog. Facebook is more made for sharing with friends who already know your birthday/phone number/school/etc.
I agree with you completely.
I think with the bigger sites like facebook it’s generally assumed you know the person since there’s so much personal information there. Xanga is good for that, though, because it’s a smaller community and we have to stick together.
i def agree! i love xanga. i also love it cause i feel its become sort of an underdog blog site… lol, pretty much nobody knows about it anymore
True – if I want to comment on someone’s picture on Facebook, or a note they wrote, they’ll be all “Why are you talking to me, we never talk…” People seem very friendly and open-minded here too, which I really like.
Agreed–though I often use facebook/aim to better get to know certain Xangans.
@MilkyWhitesezMoo - it’s the indie blogging site of the web. XD
I agree! Xanga is definitely a wonderful community, not just a blog site.
I love xanga, too.
So true. Facebook…its ok, but I use it for a different purpose than Xanga. Xanga is for blogging and getting feedback on my work, facebook is for keeping in touch with my friends. And I don’t really want them to mix.
agreed!
Word to this post! <3
I love Xanga. If I didn’t have idiots to harass I would cry.
This random stranger agrees with you!
Xanga is the only place i know of that is primarily 4 writers or bloggers who want to network. In this regard it’s unique. I wish there were another place like it, but there isnt-yet.
Strangers are as friendly as friends and so they are more like strange friends than strangers. Does that even make sense? o.o
aww. =)
Ok so I have no friends on xanga… I just started today and I need a few cool friends, and I have a song I want you guys to hear and comment on. Thanks, Jayfurb1
On here, you can be much more secretive.
I feel as though facebook is much more networking than xanga. I don’t go on xanga to network, I go on xanga to vent out in a way that no one knows who this chick is that’s bitching.
Exactly. I’d sooner spill my guts to people on xanga than a place like facebook. two many people know me, or can find me and see something I wish they wouldn’t.
If my closest friend says something that upsets me, for like the first time ever and I don’t want it to blow out of porportion. I feel I can post it here, get out all my transgretions and get some comforting feedback, and resolve my feeling before I blow up about it and ruin what is an otherwise great friendship.
Plus, I hate the idea of brying in front of other people. so here I can type, and cry and not have to fight myself to talk. I can just let it flow out, get the crying down and feel that rush of releif.
@crazy2love - You, my new friend, do not have that much time! LOL
Thanks for the sub, too
well i can’t even compare the two cause i don’t have facebook -_-;;
yes, true.
xo
Sooo true!
Xanga has a wonderful community feel. No matter what you write about, it seems that there will be someone out there who will read it.
*agreed*
