  • Concentrating On School Work

I’ve read the same two sentences about 5 times. I get to the end of the second sentence when I realize that I’m reading the words without digesting the information. Then I start over. And over. And over….

Why is this happening? This is for an online class, so I have to do all the readings. There isn’t much of a lecture, only a brief overview of what we will be reading….so who knows what’s going to be on the exams?? So I have to do all the readings. But I can’t concentrate. I’m even playing classical music to help. And I’m not even distracted by anything!! Damnit.

Does/has this ever happened to you when you do school work?? What the hell do you do about it??

  • This is familiar.  Take some time to figure out what’s REALLY bothering you.  It may help, when you resume reading, to outline the main points in a notebook, like we all did back in high school.

  • … I hardly read for college lol.

But, when I *did* read for a class, I did it in chunks, like 30 minutes. After that, I told myself that I would take a short break to play a quick game, then go back at it again. I have a terrible attention span, so breaking up my work into small pieces helped me focus.

  • I usually got a little fresh air and walked around and then I went back at it.  For me a little break got me going again.
