HELP!!!!
I'm doing a presentation on anarchism, and I need everyone's help. For part of the presentation I need to talk about the views from the outside...meaning etic views. Views from people who are not within the social culture and group of anarchism.
So, could everyone tell me what they think about when they think about anarchism? What do you think it means? What do you think it means to be an anarchist?

1. I think anarchism would reduce the world to what Hobbes would claim is 'Nasty, Brutish, and Short'. Our lives would become meaningless unless you subscribe to religion because there would be no higher power like a government to take care of you.
2. I think it means not having anyone to look over your shoulder and force you to pay taxes. Things like that.
3. To be an anarchist means to not believe in any form of government. Just in no government at all.
I'm not an anarchist so I hope that helps you! I will rec to get some more help for you.
I generally think of a group that will be against it no matter what it is.

I'd go with chaos. Humans need government.
The idea of anarchism is laughable. It would only work if all people had the exact same idea of right and wrong.
I think Anarchism is desired by people who don't want to take responsibility for their actions, and don't think things through with their brain. Anarchy means no government.
A lack of government - everyone fends for themselves.
I can't say I know very much about anarchism, but my understanding is that it's about fighting the good fight by any means necessary. Anarchists are anti-establishment, anti-war, anti-Government, etc. Anarchism isn't just something purely political, though. It's them trying to uphold all that is supposed to be in wherever country they come from and raging when they don't keep it that way. That's when things get chaotic.
I'm not an anarchist, but that is just my understanding. When I think of anarchism is that it's both a life-long protest. Like all of punk culture, it has it's cultish moments. When you kind of leave the growing circle, they look down on you for it. But otherwise, anarchism is all about the beliefs and your views on the world over, rather than anything exterior.
I mostly found out about anarchism through Negativland, through reading some stuff and finding out 2 or three of my favorite bands/artists are anarchists (Against Me!, Chumbawamba, Lupe Fiasco, etc).
No government, which may work in a small group of people but would probably be chaotic on a national or state level.

Once any two people agree to help one another out, it's no longer anarchy.
I had to read V for Vendetta for a class and like the movie it was about freeing people from a totalitarian regime through anarchism. However, anarchism means "no government" which is not a democracy and also results in violence. I think although anarchism can be freeing from an oppressive government, the idea of no government is also not peaceful. I think people need government and should be well involved with civic participation to be a successful democracy.
